Smart Junction Box
The smart hub for your system, designed to centralize and secure the wiring of anode zones
The BlueSpine Smart Junction Box is a smart junction box designed to centralize the power and measurement connections for an anode zone. Equipped with an onboard electronic system designed by BlueSpine, it can centralize up to 15 input connections:
5 steel power connections;
5 anode power connections;
2-channel reference electrodes;
2-channel depolarization probes;
1 steel measurement channel.
All connections are then routed through just three output cables to the PLC, including a multi-conductor cable dedicated to the measurement circuit.
The Smart Junction Box includes a connector specifically designed for connecting the Q-Box. This connector enables all commissioning checks recommended by European and international standards to be performed, including provisional commissioning prior to final connection to the PLC.
Contractors can thus verify and correct the installation zone by zone before the system is permanently wired. This significantly reduces the risk of errors and the costs of rework.

Key benefits
Wiring reduced by a factor of 3
Up to 15 input connections consolidated into 3 cable outputs. Fewer cables leaving each zone, resulting in a cleaner, faster, and more cost-effective installation.
Secure commissioning
The built-in Q-Box connector allows for full temporary commissioning before final connection. Check each zone before permanently wiring it to avoid costly rework.
Ease of connection
Lever-type connectors accommodate all cross-sections from 0.2 to 6 mm² without any adapters. On the output side, Sunclix connectors snap into place without tools. A quick, easy-to-read connection that leaves no room for error.
IP66 / IK10 ruggedness
Fully waterproof and highly impact-resistant for use on construction sites and in long-term operations. Available in a GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) housing or a stainless steel housing for the most demanding environments. Both versions are IP66 and IK10 compliant.

XLPE-XLPE single-conductor cables
Cables compliant with EN ISO 12696 for clear, traceable, and durable wiring
BlueSpine single-conductor cables are specifically designed for power and measurement circuits in impressed current cathodic protection systems. Their dual XLPE-XLPE insulation ensures long-term durability in concrete over a temperature range of -30 to +90°C.
Each color corresponds to a specific role in the installation, in accordance with the EN ISO 12696 standard, making the wiring immediately readable and traceable during inspections.
Key benefits
Standardized color code
Five colors, five roles. The installation is clearly identifiable and traceable from the moment it is installed, eliminating any risk of confusion during inspections or maintenance, in accordance with the requirements of the cathodic protection standards EN ISO 12696 and NACE SP0290.
Robustness
The dual XLPE-XLPE insulation ensures permanent integration into the concrete. Available in 2.5 mm², 4 mm², and 6 mm² cross-sections for power circuits, the cables are resistant to moisture, alkaline environments, and temperature fluctuations throughout the installation’s service life.
Flexibility during installation
BlueSpine cables consist of 50 copper strands, compared to the minimum of 7 strands required by the standard. This higher density improves their flexibility and makes it easier to route them through tight spaces, particularly in engravings where the bend radius is limited.
Connection reliability
All BlueSpine connections are made using waterproof heat-shrink crimp terminals: eyelet terminals for connections to anodes and cathodes, and butt terminals for cable-to-cable connections. This waterproofing provides long-lasting protection for the contacts within the concrete and ensures the circuit’s reliability throughout its service life.

| Characteristic | Value |

XLPE-XLPE multi-conductor cable
Multi-conductor cable: a single cable for the entire measurement circuit
The BlueSpine multi-conductor cable connects the cathodic protection controller to the Smart Junction Boxes in each anode zone on the measurement circuit. Its 5 × 1 mm² design allows all of a zone’s measurement conductors to be bundled into a single cable, where five separate cables would otherwise be required. The result: significantly simplified cable routing between the controller and the zone boxes, and a faster, cleaner installation that is easier to maintain.
Key benefits
Reducing the number of cables
The Smart Junction Box combines the five measurement cables for a zone into a single multi-conductor cable. This reduces the length of cabling between the PLC and the zone boxes by an average of 50%, which simplifies cable routing, reduces the amount of material needed, and makes installation easier in tight spaces.
Q-Box compatible via a dedicated M12 connector
The multi-conductor cable plugs directly into the Smart Junction Box’s M12 connector, allowing the Q-Box to read all measurements for a zone with a single connection. No rewiring, no adapters: the system is designed to work together.
One-step connection, no tools required
The 5-pin M12 connector snaps directly into the Smart Junction Box without the need for tools or adapters. A polarizing feature prevents incorrect orientation during connection—even under the pressures of a construction site—and ensures a reliable connection every time.

| Characteristic | Value |
| Insulation | Double XLPE-XLPE sheath |
| Conductors | 5 × 1 mm²: 32 copper strands |
| Rated voltage | 0.6 / 1 kV |
| Temperature range | -40 to +125°C |
| Output connector | M12, 5-pin (Smart Junction Box side) |
| Packaging | 100 m reel |

FAQ
Your questions, our answers
How does the Smart Junction Box differ from a standard junction box?
A standard junction box provides only the physical connection of cables. The BlueSpine Smart Junction Box features an embedded electronic system that consolidates up to 15 input connections into just 3 cable outputs. It also includes a dedicated connector for the Q-Box, enabling a complete temporary commissioning process prior to the final connection to the PLC (connection verification, regulatory checks, and preparation of the PAQ).
Are power cables available in cross-sections other than 2.5 mm²?
Yes. The power cables—red (anode) and black (steel)—are available in 2.5 mm², 4 mm², and 6 mm² sizes, depending on the specifications of your installation. The measurement cables (blue, yellow, gray) are supplied in the standard 2.5 mm² size. Please contact us for any specific requirements.
Do BlueSpine cables and enclosures comply with the EN ISO 12696 standard?
BlueSpine single-conductor cables are available in the five colors specified by the EN ISO 12696 standard, ensuring a traceable and compliant installation from the moment they are laid. The Smart Junction Box is designed to meet the monitoring and documentation requirements set forth in the standard, including the preparation of the Quality Assurance Plan (QAP).
