BlueSpine is working on the rehabilitation of a century-old grandstand in Uccle, Belgium. The Royal Racing Club of Brussels, an iconic institution of Belgian field hockey, was determined to rehabilitate its early 20th-century reinforced concrete grandstand. Discover how impressed current cathodic protection proved to be the best treatment for this listed structure.

The Structure:
The structure is a reinforced concrete grandstand built in 1903. It is believed to have hosted the match that led to the creation of FIFA, with the first France–Belgium match taking place there in 1904.
The Mission:
Corrosion diagnosis assistance | Cathodic protection design and specification | Equipment manufacturing and supply | Construction supervision | Performance monitoring
Project Stakeholders:
- Owner: Royal Racing Club de Bruxelles
- Engineering Consultant: Siriad Construct
- Contractor: Socatra
Our intervention:
BlueSpine was commissioned for a complete project to implement an impressed current cathodic protection system on the grandstand structure of the Royal Racing Club de Bruxelles stadium in Uccle.
This structure, listed as a heritage site since 2009, is a reinforced concrete grandstand that had been closed to the public for several years due to the risk of collapse. Thanks to the exceptional mobilization of institutions, hockey fans, club members, and private investors, the grandstand was able to be renovated.
We were tasked with assisting with the corrosion diagnosis of this particular structure. Starting with the analysis of the diagnostic data and the recommendation of the structural treatment system, BlueSpine determined the dimensions of the impressed current cathodic protection (ICP) system. We then supplied all the necessary equipment for system implementation:
MMO titanium anode system, guaranteeing efficient current diffusion and a lifespan of over 50 years.
Integrated sensors to measure corrosion potential, temperature, and humidity in real time, and to evaluate the protection performance.
- Q-Box developed by BlueSpine: monitoring of the installation throughout the construction process, ensuring complete site safety.
- Automate BSCP-100 developed by BlueSpine:
- Automated and remote monitoring of the installation,
- Intelligent current regulation,
- Generation of standardized reports for long-term monitoring.
- Système anodique en titane MMO, garantissant une diffusion efficace du courant et une durabilité de plus de 50 ans.
- Capteurs intégrés pour mesurer en temps réel le potentiel de corrosion, la température, l’humidité, et évaluer la performance de la protection.
